We arrived in San Fran early Friday evening, welcomed by our gracious hosts for the weekend, Sarah and Pepper (aka, Salt ‘N Peppa).  We were just a block away from the infamous Haight-Ashbury intersection (Aunt Betsy should know all about that corner) where we dined on noodles that first evening.  Chris then did some research on Wing Chun studios in the city, and found quite a few to choose from.

Saturday morning we had coffee at pastries at a fabulous French pastry shop and then Sarah shoved us on a bus heading towards Chinatown.  First stop was a kung fu studio in on Commercial Street where we stopped in to watch the tail end of a class.  Chris chatted with the sifu and on the way out was a target of a pigeon’s giant poop … right on the head!  Needless to say, he had to go back in and wash up and they told him it was good luck.  We’re not sure we believe that line.

We wandered around Chinatown for a while and Chris picked up a $2 t-shirt before grabbing a soup and dumplings lunch.  We caught the bus back to the apartment, and Chris continued on to the US Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy for a 2pm class with Grandmaster Chris Chan.  Liz and Sarah had their girl time while Chris got schooled on the “secrets” of kung fu mastery and Chinatown street fights with Bruce Lee as your sidekick.

After Chris found his way back we grabbed a quick pizza dinner and then Netflixed National Lampoon’s Vacation, which is surely Sarah’s new favorite movie of all time.  It was another long weekend of fun and adventure, and we headed off to Portland the next afternoon with a planned overnighter in Redwoods National Park.
